Home Workouts!⁣

Before the pandemic happened I would’ve panicked at the thought of gyms closing, worrying about how my mental and physical health would be negatively affected. ⁣
⁣
I’m actually really surprised how much I’ve been enjoying home workouts and only occasionally miss the gym! Here are the reasons that I think home workouts are working for me.⁣
⁣
1️⃣ Make a plan of your workout split for the week. I used to do this when I went to the gym and I’m doing it now, so everyday I know what muscle group I’m working. My split is (Lower body x3, push, pull, abs x3) ⁣
⁣
2️⃣ Plan your workout before you start. This will help keep you focused and finish your workout! There’s some great content on Instagram right now for home workouts or use an app/YouTube videos.⁣
⁣
4️⃣ Do something you enjoy! Especially at the moment there is no point doing something you dislike, you won’t want to do it and it’s much easier to give up when your 2 metres away from the sofa rather than at a gym. ⁣
⁣
5️⃣ Still incorporate rest days, give yourself a chance to recover. Go for a long walk or read a book! I’m currently having 1-2 rest days a week. ⁣
⁣
6️⃣ Try not to compare your workout routine or progress to other people! Everyone has different home setups, different lives, different equipment, so will need to find a different way to make this work for them! ⁣

Finally, if home workouts really don’t work for you, don’t worry. ⁣

The mental clarity that arises with love helps us navigate interpersonal spaces so that we can know when to be present and give and when to pull away because the situation at hand will not be improved by our giving or because harm may come our way if we continue to stay. Loving without attachments does not mean that we let people harm us. Real love is also taking ownership of our personal protection.

Having a strong self love helps you find the balance between giving selflessly and protecting yourself from harm. The growing clarity of self love helps us love ourselves and others more while our minds become calmer and wiser in their responses to the outside world, but that does that mean that we become defenseless and allow people to harm us. Self love helps us understand when to engage in difficult situations and when to step away from a situation that can only result in harm.

Self love gives us the energy and courage to find the tools we need to sharpen our awareness and ability to problem solve. Real self love motivates us to release the denser clouds of our conditioning/ego that limit our clarity. Having an introspective practice like an effective form of therapy or meditation (among many other things) is particularly useful in developing the clarity that can help with difficult decision-making. Through honest introspection we can cultivate objective self-awareness which helps us see more perspectives than just our own.

The cultivation and healing of the mind helps when difficult situations come up because we are now better equipped to find the proper balance between action and non-action, knowing when it is a good time to give and knowing when our effort won't help with what is happening in the moment. Sometimes the best thing we can do is step away from a situation and send love from afar.

The past one week has been a roller coaster.
